Educational Qualification/SSC CGL Recruitment 2026

For Most Group ‘B’ & ‘C’ Posts: 
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is the basic requirement.
For Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): 
Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in Mathematics at the 12th standard level OR Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
For Statistical Investigator Grade-II: 
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Demography/Population Studies/Operations Research/Information Technology/Computer Science/Data Science/AI from a recognized University.
Final Year Students: 
Candidates who have appeared in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply. However, they must possess the essential qualification by the specified date (01.08.2026)

How to Apply/SSC CGL Recruitment 2026

Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Go to the official website of the Staff Selection Commission: https://ssc.gov.in.
Step 2: Navigate to the CGL Application Link
On the homepage, look for and click on the “SSC CGL 2026” or “Apply Online” link for the Combined Graduate Level Examination.
Step 3: Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) / Login
New Users: If you are a new user, click on the “New User? Register Now” option. Enter your basic details like name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, and Aadhaar number. A registration number and password will be generated.
Existing Users: If you have registered previously, simply log in using your registration number and password.
Step 4: Fill Out the Online Application Form
Once logged in, the application form will auto-fill your OTR data. You need to enter the following:
Educational Qualifications: Your graduation and other relevant degree details.
Post Preferences: Select the posts you are applying for in order of preference.
Exam Center: Choose your preferred examination centre (usually three choices).
Step 5: Upload Required Documents
Scan and upload the following documents in the prescribed format (size and dimensions will be specified in the notification):

Selection Process and Examination Phases/SSC CGL Recruitment 2026

1. Tier-I Examination (Computer Based Test – CBT): 
This is a screening and qualifying test. Only candidates who qualify in Tier-I are eligible to appear for Tier-II.
2. Tier-II Examination (Computer Based Test – CBT):
This is the main merit-based examination. The final selection is determined by the candidates’ performance in Tier-II. The pattern for Tier-II has undergone a significant change for the 2026 cycle.
3. Document Verification (DV):
 Candidates who are shortlisted based on their Tier-II performance will be called for document verification to confirm their eligibility
4. Physical/Medical Test (for specific posts only): 
For a few specific posts like Inspector (CBIC, CBN) and Sub-Inspector (CBI, NIA, NCB), candidates have to pass the Physical Standards Test (PST) and/or Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and a medical examination conducted by the respective department

Paper-I is now mandatory for all candidates, comprising modules on Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST).

• The final merit is determined solely by the candidate’s performance in Tier-II. The marks from Tier-I are not counted in the final merit list, but clearing it is mandatory to be eligible for Tier-II.
• The syllabus for the Computer Knowledge section includes topics like Computer Fundamentals, MS Office, the Internet, Networking, etc..
• DEST is a qualifying test: candidates must achieve a minimum speed as prescribed by the Commission.

1. Can final-year degree students apply for SSC CGL 2026?

A: Yes, candidates who are in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply. However, they must have obtained their degree by the specified cut-off date of 01.08.2026

2. Is there an interview for SSC CGL 2026?

A: No, there is no interview for Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts under SSC CGL. The selection is based solely on the performance in the Tier-I and Tier-II computer-based examinations, followed by document verification

3. What is the negative marking scheme for SSC CGL 2026?

A: For the AAO post, the essential qualification is graduation. However, possession of a Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost & Management Accountant (CMA), Company Secretary (CS), or Master’s degree in Commerce/Finance is often considered desirable. A B.Sc. degree may be considered, but you should check the detailed notification for specific requirements

8. What is the language of the SSC CGL question paper?

A: The Tier-I and Tier-II (except for the language comprehension section) papers are generally bilingual (English & Hindi). The English section is only in English.

9. How many attempts are allowed for the SSC CGL exam?

A: There is no limit on the number of attempts for the SSC CGL exam as long as the candidate is within the prescribed age limit and fulfills all other eligibility criteria

10. I made a mistake in my date of birth while filling out the form. How can I correct it?

A: Major errors like the date of birth might not be changeable online. You will likely need to contact the SSC Regional Office directly for such corrections. You can also use the application correction window (29 June to 01 July 2026) for certain fields.
